Solar Energy Products

Over the past eight years, Solar Innovations™ has witnessed unprecedented growth in its conservatory, greenhouse, and sunroom business partially due to the publics’ growing knowledge of passive solar opportunities.  Not only are customers realizing the value of passive heat gain from their sunspace, but also a measurable increase in their home equity, particularly when it is time to sell the house.

Starting in mid-2008, Solar Innovations™ will provide complete packages of alternative energy systems that integrate with Solar Innovations structures.

Solar energy can be used in many ways to utilize the sun’s rays to create usable heat and electric.  Passive solar heating is the simplest and most environmentally friendly method available today.  This approach can be achieved without the use of any mechanical means or used in a hybrid situation to maximize mechanical and passive opportunities.  Designing and incorporating large windows facing south in conjunction with materials to collect and store heat, as well as the orientation of the building itself, can reduce heating expenses.  Passive solar designs can also include natural ventilation for cooling to create or improve green products.

Photovoltaics are now being laminated onto glass as thin, semi-transparent films that allow light to shine through while still being able to act as power generators. The degree of transparency can be varied by the density of the PV materials on the laminate. This will allow varied degrees of interior shading.  These concepts can be incorporated into stand-alone greenhouses as well as standard sunroom and window wall designs to produce alternative energy.

Heat

Domestic Water Heaters – Solar hot water heaters can provide domestic hot water or hot water for space heating.
Forced Air Space Heaters – An active system can use sunlight to heat the air in living and working spaces.
Geo-thermal Heat Pumps – Use the Earth to sore and provide heat.
Phase Change Material (PCM) Thermal Storage – Solar heat storage in PCM stabalize indoor environments.
Radiant Water Space Heaters – An active system can use sunlight to heat the air in living and working spaces.

Light

Greenhouse Lights – Efficient extended grow-time lighting.
Super-Insulated Skylights – Transparent insulation now give skylights insulation values equal to normal roofing materials.
Super-Insulated Windows – Light rooms and provide solar heating while insulating like a normal wall.

Electricity

Hydrogeneration – Uses the power of flowing water to drive an electric generator such as a waterwheel.
Photovoltaic (PV) technology – Converts sunlight directly into electricity (voltage).
Wind Turbine Systems – Uses the power of wind of flowing water to drive an electric generator.

Cooling
PCM Heat Exchangers – Used to absorb excess heat tduring hte day and vent it to the outside suring the cooler nights.
