Poly Wall Systems: Sloped and Vertical Glazing

60mm polycarbonate systems by Solar Innovations® are impact rated and an excellent choice for residential and commercial jobs. This polycarbonate is visually the same as 25mm polycarbonate except that it consists of ten walls. 60mm is also thermally broken and is comparable to a 2 3/8” unit of insulated glass. The additional walls within the exterior surfaces allow for better insulation. Skylights, doors, windows and walls are all possibilities to utilize the 60mm polycarbonate. Clean-line modern appearances are achieved with the use of this polycarbonate system. The appearance has a stark difference when compared to glass, evoking a more contemporary feel. It is often chosen for its aesthetic appeal, design flexibilities and is available in clear, opal or heat reflective.

The multiple walls give the polycarbonate a light transmittance between ten and twenty-five percent depending on selected color. Light transmittance refers to the amount of light which passes through the polycarbonate and enters the room. The 60mm system allows natural daylight to enter a room. A skylight, door or window which utilizes polycarbonate still allows plenty of light into a room as compared to a traditional glass product.

Another measurement of polycarbonate is the r-value which ranges from 7 to 18 when filled with nanogel. The r-value is the measurement of how well the polycarbonate blocks heat from entering a room. (The higher the number the better). A seven is a suitable number, but when filled with nanogel the r-ratings are exceptional. Nanogel is a clear gel which is inserted into the polycarbonate walls. It acts as an insulation and is not seen visually because of its clear properties.

Solar Innovations® has tested its 60mm testing to meet Florida Impact ratings at a DP rating of 60. The polycarbonate has been tested on multi-bay sliding doors, curbmount skylights, and window walls. Each panel tested was 4’0” x 8’0” in measurement and panels can be combined to meet any required dimension. Testing has been passed and approval is waiting on the final material certification.
