Orchid Greenhouses
by Solar Innovations, Inc.
Build the Perfect Environment™
Orchids have been called one of the most addicting plants to grow. After purchasing one or two orchids, a grower's collection quickly expands. As the number of orchids increases it becomes time to invest in an orchid greenhouse. Solar Innovations, Inc. designs orchid greenhouses to meet your specific needs. Our orchid greenhouses can incorporate essential elements for orchids such as shading, heating, cooling, watering, and air circulation. Solar Innovations, Inc. greenhouses are available in any shape, size, or configuration and are designed to meet each customer’s needs. Orchid greenhouses can vary in size, from a simple garden window to a large estate greenhouse.
Solar Innovations, Inc. Orchid Greenhouses are designed to create a stable environment for the plants, which is critical to their success. The greenhouses will withstand high snow, wind, and water loads. Each project is engineered for local loading requirements to ensure safety. Solar Innovations, Inc.'s thermally broken greenhouses includes for all accessories, sills, doors, windows, and ridge and eave vents. The unique thermal isolator in Solar's aluminum orchid greenhouses allows for increased thermal performance while maintaining architectural appeal. Orchid greenhouse environments are also improved with high performance glazing and incorporates stainless steel spacers within the glass panes; this provides a more stable internal environment despite changes in external temperatures.

Depending on the type of orchids customers intend to grow, Solar Innovations, Inc. can incorporate a misting or drip system to provide ease of care. The old saying, "less is more" is applicable for orchids. Over watering a plant is one of the easiest ways to kill it. A drip system is an ideal method for controlling water flow, the unit consists of a black plastic tube that runs the benches' length. Individual drip tubes supply a steady drip to the orchid’s container. Accessories can be automatically controlled, which takes the guess work out of watering and allows the gardener to leave the greenhouse unattended for extended periods of time.
It is important to consider light transmittance when designing an orchid greenhouse. Bright light will burn an orchid, so light has to be filtered. One solution is to install shading into the greenhouse, available in interior or exterior applications. There are several different weave and color options to select. These shades can be controlled manually or programmed by an automated controller. Additionally, light control can be achieved by the use of LoE glass in the roof and walls. This is a coating is applied to glass and reduces the amount of light penetrating the room. Heat gain is lowered as well as UV rays which fade interior objects.

Circulating fans are essential greenhouse accessories. When the air becomes stagnant pests can spread quickly. The circulating fans help keep the air moving which cools the temperature of the plants and can help to reduce plant burns. Another benefit to fans in the orchid greenhouse is an even temperature in the greenhouse.
Solar Innovations, Inc.’s experienced horticulture design team partners with our customers to design the entire growing environment, rather than only providing structure design assistance as many of our competitors do.
