Bifold Doors
Bifold Doors Provide Flexibility Beyond Compare
Bifold Doors by Solar Innovations, Inc.
A bifold door is a system of individual door panels which operate on a track. The doors will slide along the track and then fold against a wall. The most common example of a bifold door is the accordion door used in residential closets. The bifold door is also commonly referred to as a folding glass door system or exterior folding wall.
Bifold door systems have been dated back to Pompeii in Rome, Italy. The society as a whole embraced bifolding doors. Traditional single leaf doors were uncommon and most homes used double doors or bifold doors. The benefit of this door system then is the same as it is today. As the doors are opened, the wind can pass into the space, cool air is permitted to cool a room. Nature is brought inside the room. This is common today in outdoor patios, hotel balconies and even interior spaces.
Solar Innovations® is a bifold door manufacturer based in Pennsylvania. All manufacturing is completed in Pennsylvania which saves on shipping costs and quicker response times to any maintenance issues. Unlike traditional bifold doors which are created out of wood, Solar Innovations® manufacturers bifold doors out of aluminum. By using aluminum, there is no rotting, warping, termite damage or constant finish maintenance. The aluminum is all thermally isolated and allows for great insulation within a room.

The bifold hardware that Solar Innovations uses is of superior quality. Stainless steel and aluminum hinges are used on all bifolding doors to ensure a long life span. These hinges will withstand the salt from a coastal environment. Heavy saltwater finishes are also available on door handles for applications near the ocean.
Another key feature of a Solar Innovations® bifold door is the option to utilize a recessed bumper handle, not available with other bifold door manufacturers. Instead of a protruding door bumper the recessed model is clean, smooth, visually appealing and still does the job.
A bifold door lock is available in two options: traditional flush bolts or a two point lock. Solar Innovations’ two point lock was designed in-house and is manufactured in the Pennsylvania plant. The lock is constructed entirely out of stainless steel, which provides salt water abrasion resistance and strength to resist scratches and physical damages to the lock.
All configurations and dimensions on bifold door systems by Solar Innovations are customized to the client’s specific job. The bifold door purchased from Solar Innovations will be manufactured to fit your opening; there are no standard size parameters you must maintain. Custom configurations are available from Solar Innovations which are not found with other manufacturers. A center pivot folding door can be completed as well as a double door option with swing door, using an even on even panel configuration. Another option is to create an even on even configuration without a hinge jam, another design not available with other manufacturers.
Bifolding doors are not the only operable door system available by Solar Innovations®. Stacking walls are always a viable option. This system moves the panels along a track and then stacks remotely so no panels are seen from the exterior. The panels can pocket into a wall or simply stack against a wall after making a turn. Clear walls are another common door application. All doors are frameless in this model. The glass panels do not have a frame around the glass and still slide similarly to the stacking door systems.
