Glass Composition by Solar Innovations™
Learn About Options before the Purchase
Monolithic
Monolithic glazing, or single pane glass can be utilized in many applications, but does not maintain temperature within the structure as well as its insulated counterpart. This glazing employs only two surfaces, called one and two, when describing the surfaces where specialty coatings will be placed.
Advantages
- Quick cost effective replacement availability.
- Can be tinted.
- Light weight.
- Superior light transmittance capabilities.
Disadvantages
- Greater temperature difference – It allows the heat and cold from the outside to penetrate the structure and greatly affect the inside temperature.
- Limited security if glass breaks.
Insulated Glass (Tempered over Tempered)
The majority of Solar Innovations™ standard glazing products utilize stainless steel spaced and are Argon filled to increase thermal efficiency. Insulated glass contains four glass surfaces and thus a higher level of customization by placing tints, films, and other specialty applications on the inner glass surfaces. These surfaces are numbered one, two, three, and four from the exterior of the glass to the interior.
Advantages
- Isolates outdoor temperatures from the temperature inside of the structure.
- Ability to utilize gases like argon to increase performance.
- Good resistance to direct force.
- Increased security and protection from inner lite of glass.
- Low-E and soft coate Low-E options.
Disadvantages
- Limited life of air and moisture seal.
- Cannot be cut in tempered state.
Insulated Glass (Tempered over Laminate)
Advantages
- Isolates outdoor temperatures from the temperature inside of the structure.
- PVB film or laminated surface provides moderate security resistance.
Disadvantages
- Inner lite very vulnerable to breakage.
