Commercial Folding Glass Walls by Solar Innovations®
Innovation beyond Description, Flexibility beyond Compare
A commercial building is the perfect place for a folding door system by Solar Innovations®. Folding doors, folding glass walls, or bifold doors can be used in conjunction with any commercial applications. Below are a few examples:
Open a restaurant to patio seating, or pass food through folding glass windows from kitchen to counter.
- Create a glass partition or operable partition between car showrooms. The doors will fold and a car can easily pass between sections or back onto the lot. A flush sill option allows for unobstructed passage of the vehicle.
- An all aluminum frame makes the doors suitable for hospital or retirement home facilities. One of several ADA compliant sill options can be utilized to meet code requirements in such instances.
Folding glass walls are accordion style doors which fold left, right, or are split between middle panels to create a unique opening glass wall, as in a bi-fold door application. These doors can be used for residential and commercial applications, interior and exterior spaces, and high velocity hurricane zone (HVHZ) requirements.
Folding glass wall frames are constructed entirely of aluminum, and can be veneered with various wood species upon request to create the most durable wood clad option. There are two types of frames available, thermal and non-thermal. A thermal frame is insulated and is appropriate for exterior locations where outdoor elements will be in contact with the doors. A non-thermal folding door frame is not insulated and should be used for interior locations where there is no exposure to the elements, or possibly in three season applications such as the Caribbean. Both the thermal and non-thermal frames are available in three rail widths: narrow, standard, and wide, allowing for flexible sight lines and bottom rails. Each rail stile can be integrated on a single door. For greater architectural flexibility, the outside framing can be wide and the inside stiles used as grids can be narrow.
All sizes, configurations, and panel count are completely custom with any Solar glass partition or operable partition. There are no two identical folding wall units constructed by Solar Innovations®; each job is completely custom. This means that your doors can be constructed to match any opening and may contain any number of panels; units can even be retrofitted to match an existing opening if you are replacing a patio door. The same frame used to make the folding doors can be used to make integrated transoms (and headers if needed), side lights, and separate swing doors. By using the same framework, the sightlines along the building’s façade will have a uniform appearance.
The glazing that goes inside the framing can be customized as well. Low-e tints are available, as are sandblasting, acid etching, grid-work, restoration glass, polycarbonate, and acrylic choices. If there is a glazing available in the industry which meets code, Solar Innovations® can typically use it on a commercial folding glass wall system.

The hardware used on the doors is of highest quality. Double door and single door panic hardware options are offered on all operable doors. Another option available on operable doors are removable/adjustable closers. Stainless steel, corrosion proof, two point locks are easy to operate on the doors, aesthetically appealing, and offer great security. ADA sills are available on most models as well as high performance sills for high wind and water applications. Several systems have been tested for Florida Hurricane Impact ratings. The largest aluminum doors in the industry, 3’0” x 10’0” and 3’6” x 9’6” have successfully passed High Velocity Hurrican Zone (HVHZ) testing. There are also available options for Miami-Dade and Florida Product Approval non-impact doors.
If you have purchased a folding door in the past from one of our competitors, the Solar Innovations® team can easily aid in adjustment or repair of the unit (View our Parts and Services Page to learn more). The same team can install a new door system or you can purchase a “do-it-yourself kit” where only the product is purchased from our factory and the installation is completed by the purchaser.
Folding glass doors are not the only commercial door system manufactured by Solar Innovations®; stacking, sliding, pivoting, and lift sliding are all available options. A stacking system allows for panels to move to a remote location. Sliding and lift sliding systems require less floor space than a folding door, and pivot doors are ideal for large single openings. If there is an opening in a commercial setting, Solar Innovations® has the system to help you accomplish your goals.
