Curtain wall systems by Solar Innovations® can be utilized in commercial and residential applications. Commercial applications are typically configured for store fronts. To view more information on a storefront curtain wall, please click on this link. Residential applications include exterior walls that showcase a beautiful view, interior partitions between rooms and outside buildings such as pool houses or garden sheds. Whatever the application may be, a curtain wall is an excellent way to bring natural light into a room and enjoy nature without being exposed to the elements.

All curtain walls by Solar Innovations® are constructed out of durable aluminum. The benefit to an aluminum curtain wall is the reduction in required maintenance. Aluminum curtain walls will not rot, rust, warp, expand with heat or require constant finishing. Solar Innovations® offers eight standard frame finish colors and any custom color your job may necessitate or unfinished aluminum. Each frame is customized to your exact dimensions, which means that our units will be built to fit your openings.

Glazed curtainwalls are the most common that Solar Innovations® manufactures. There are numerous available glass options for a curtain wall. Low-e tints are a very practical choice because UV-ray penetration is limited. The reduction in UV-rays cuts down on fading to furniture, window treatments and countertops. This type of glass is also energy efficient and greatly assists in maintaining a constant, comfortable temperature within the room. Polycarbonate can also be utilized within the panels to provide a clean line, modern appearance. There are several colors available, in varying thicknesses.

Decorative glazing options are also available. An interior partition may need to block what is in the adjoining room. A laundry room would be an example of this, where you might want to hide any clutter within the room. An acid etch glazing or sandblasted finish are solutions to this design requirement. Acid etch glasses are shown on the left and consist of a pattern on the glass such as rain drops or vertical ridges. This allows glass to penetrate the room, but the vision is obstructed. Sandblasted glass appears white, and no one can see into the room. Another option is spandrel glass. This type of glass is painted, which blocks all vision. The bottom three feet of the glass can be spandrel and the top be a clear glass. Anything countertop and below is blocked while the upper portion is still visible.

Decorative items can also be added to the curtainwall. Gridwork can be used for architectural interest and allows the glass panels to match the rest of your home. There are exterior grids and interior muntins available. The exterior grids can physically be touched, and are a very traditional style. Interior muntins are located between the two panes of glass. This application is very useful for hard to reach places or locations that come into contact with a lot of dirt, such as in front of a windowsill that houses a lot of plants. Various patterns are available to choose between including a traditional 6 over 3 (or any custom number you would like), radiused, and gothic grids.

After a design is finalized, Solar Innovations® or one of their national dealers can complete the installation of the product for your job. There are also “do-it-yourself” kits available for those who wish to buy factory direct and then complete the installation themselves.
